MODULE ONE

AGING

In order to understand more about your aging, it is helpful to know what your beliefs are about it and how you acquired those beliefs. For example, many of us have simply inherited negative beliefs from our age-averse culture.
 
The “third act” can be a time for joy and delight, but we must create that, our culture does not support aging. It is upon us to find the pieces to the aging puzzle — how to think more positively about aging; how to stay strong physically and remain important to our community, visible and vital as we age. This first module of The Art of Mindful Aging explores in depth our cultural inheritances, stereotypes and thoughts on aging.

MODULE TWO

YOUR BODY

Establishing a solid relationship with your body as you age is important. In this module, you’ll explore the quality of the relationship with your body and whether it is connected, loving, adversarial or completely detached. You will also identify your feelings and attitudes about your aging body’s appearance, along with discovering what your body needs as you grow older and the benefits of self-care.

MODULE THREE

YOUR WISDOM & VALUE

You have immense value and much acquired wisdom throughout your lifetime.  The world needs your gifts, skills and talents.  This module will give you the opportunity to review all you have gained and how you might want to share your wisdom as you age.

MODULE FOUR

YOUR SEXUALITY

As we grow older, men have more estrogen and women have more testosterone.  This natural occurrence of shifting hormone levels can change or lessen our sexual desire or how we approach sexuality.  In this module, we will discuss that a different level of intimacy may be awaiting you as you age and how to step into that new form of sensuality and sexuality with confidence.

MODULE FIVE

YOUR SPIRITUALITY

Grace, compassion, kindness, reflection, forgiveness can be gateways to the spiritual development and freedom of your soul. In this module, you will discuss the benefits of moving your focus from the external to internal. You will determine the spiritual practice(s) that appeal specifically to you and how to approach and incorporate those practices into your daily life.

The Inspiration for This Program

My intention in creating The Art of Mindful Aging program was to provide a forum for discussion and exploration of the issues facing older adults in our culture and communities. 

My big vision is to support as many people as I can through this program.  This is for every aging adult that is confused and frustrated because they’re no longer part of the matrix of society in the way they once were.  We do not have a seat at the table where products and services are being marketed to younger people, yet we have more purchasing power.  It’s time we had more influence and changed the paradigm on aging.  We are modern elders!  It is up to us to determine what we need and seek the resources and support to age with honor and respect.

The purpose of this program is to gather like-minded aging people and provide them with a positive approach and empowering experience of growing older.

Participating in Denise’s The Art of Mindful Aging course launched me into an enlightening journey of reflection, joy, and expansion. The title of this course “The Art of Mindful Aging” captivated me. My practice of mindful meditation has resulted in many beautiful changes in my life. And yet I struggle with facing old age and death.

Denise created a safe place to allow us to rethink where we are at this moment. She used brief interludes of guided meditation with specific requests (what are we feeling, or seeing?). This allowed me to tap into my inner feelings and acknowledge what is going on.

The entire workshop brought together many like minded women who equally shared their success/sad stories in timed intervals. This was not a therapy session, but a “self-care” inspiration session. Some of the spiritual aspects were universal and we had many amazing insights.

Denise asked us to clarify what we really want, and asked us to individually probe for understanding our problems. She allowed us to focus on our gifts, and her patient ability to bring us to our own conclusions feels like wisdom. The results were personal and not a “maxim or quote”.

Your spirit is sagging.  One of the joys of aging is allowing our spiritual side to emerge and act as guide.  This program will explore the various ways you can encourage and engage your spirit in a way that can support you, as you grow older.

You’ll discover what happens when you join a group of like-minded, mature adults in a safe, and supportive environment in a program designed to empower the experience of aging.

 

This program is composed of 5 modules, held weekly for 2 hours in a beautiful, spacious, comfortable studio about 30 minutes from Los Angeles.  You will be participating in changing the paradigm on aging!  We look forward to having you in the program.
